The Innovation for Democracy Foundation is a not-for-profit pan-African association under South African law. A network of laboratories, its mission is to extend its reach across the continent, in dialogue with the rest of the world. Its mission is to nurture thinking on democracy and to support networks that develop original initiatives in the field of innovation for democracy in Africa. Role and responsibilities

Reporting to the Managing Director :

  • Participates in the development of the Foundation’s communications strategy, particularly digital, and coordinates the team responsible for its implementation;
  • Under the supervision of the Head of Communications, this team produces digital media and content, keeps them up to date and manages the digital platform and relations with web service providers; 
  • Defines the calendar of actions to be carried out in line with the Foundation’s highlights and its annual programme (symposia, seminars, workshops, conferences, etc.);
  • Analyses and measures audience and traffic figures and keeps a constant watch on technological developments;
  • Under his supervision, the team prepares and organises institutional events;
  • Manages the Foundation’s website and social networks, YouTube channel and electronic newsletter;
  • Oversees the purchase of advertising space and the management of the Foundation’s social network accounts;
  • Cultivates links with major pan-African and international media for the benefit of the Foundation, and sets up indicators to measure how the Foundation is perceived;
  • Plans and coordinates communications for projects funded by the Foundation and its research and training activities;
  • Coordinates and leads all activities on the digital platform (studies, videos, feedback, etc.);
  • Working with the coordinators of the Foundation’s laboratories and branches, programme managers and project coordinators, develops ways of disseminating knowledge on a large scale (e-learning programme, podcasts, videos, online conferences and debates, etc.);
  • Ensuring the effective presence and active participation of women on the Foundation’s digital platforms;
  • Coordinates the Young Ambassadors for Democracy programme and ensures the growth and development of the Foundation’s virtual community.

Language skills
Excellent command of French and English (reading, writing and speaking).

Skills and experience required

  • Recognised diploma in digital communication and webmastering, primarily ;
  • The ability to combine communication, marketing, creativity and content production in the service of democracy in Africa;
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to listen, knowledge of social media and experience of organising, managing a team and leading online projects;
  • Ability to work in close collaboration, both internally with teams and externally with communications agencies and various web service providers;
  • Mastery of photo, video and presentation tools;
  • Excellent oral and written expression;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment;
  • Previous experience in a similar position, preferably in an international organisation;
  • Experience in creating or hosting podcasts, videos and other resources.

Working conditions

  • Full-time employment.
  • Occasional travel to the Foundation’s various sites.

The Foundation’s head office is located at the University of the Witwatersrand, 5th Floor Eskia Mphahlele Building, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, South Africa.
